An Interview with Carrie

A: How did you get your start?

C: I went to U.W.O and earned a B.A is English and Visual Arts, from there I went to college for Fashion Design and Construction. Through-out design school I loved playing with the relationship that clothing and personality play a role in our lives.

I have worked as a successful lingerie designer for other companies in the past and feel it is time to express what my idea of lingerie is. I’ve matured and feel ready to take on the demands that accompany starting your own business. There is a definite challenge in wearing all the hats that are required but it is so rewarding to see my true point of view come to life in the form of lingerie.

A: Why lingerie?

C: I’m just a real girly, girl and love how much lingerie is for the most part hidden but still says so much about the personality of the individual wearing it.

A: Why do you think lingerie is important for women?

C: There is no piece of clothing more intimate than lingerie, so I am attracted to creating garments that allow modern women to express themselves, for themselves. We go through our days and seldom does anyone know what is under our outer-garments, we hold a tantalizing secret, a secret that lies somewhere between our skin and our silks.

A: What is one piece of lingerie every woman should own?

She should for sure own a slip! I am shocked at how many women don’t. I recommend the Femme Chemise as a slip from this season’s With Love collection as it has both a bit of soft padding in the cup and is perfect for under that high waisted pencil skirt or vintage inspired dress for Spring. A slip is the key to making sure your look is polished and lady-like.

A: What social media do you currently use?

C: I use facebook! It is so easy to keep everyone in the loop about what is going on here at With Love Lingerie.

A: What is your favorite piece in your spring collection?

C: I really like the bloom romper. It is made of modal fabric so is super soft and comfy but is still cute and sassy to wear for breakfast in bed. The colour is a amazing too, the pink/coral tone looks great with every skin tone.

Oscar Dresses

Was anyone else as brutally disappointed as I was? How terrible! There were so many ill fitting and unflattering dresses. I can't help but wonder what the stars and stylists were thinking. There was also a very poor celebrity turnout. Now..I am a huge Anne Hathaway fan but this was not a good thing for her. She was nervous and awkward and it's clear now why they have more mature actors host the show. She did do a great job on her singing and dancing number though. James Franco? He was just weird..I have never been much of a fan. My favorite presenter of the night was Kirk Douglas. He will always be Spartacus to me. Oh and I LOVED Tim Gunn on NBC's red carpet show..he is just the best! This was my first time watching the Oscars live in two years and I was extremely disappointed. What are your thoughts? Thanks Hollywoodlife for the photos!

Best

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Haute Couture

Valentino Haute Couture Archival

Taylor Hackford and Hellen Mirren

Halle Berry in Marchesa
She is just stunning beyond words..

Natalie Portman in Rodarte
Twitter went crazy when she gave

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa

Worst

Melissa Leo
She is so gorgeous but the shoulder pads
take away from her face and make her
look like a football player..why why why?

This dress was stunning at the top
but the hips were terrible on her! Her
hair was also very strange...

Mulcair at Rac Boutique in Yorkville!

The other night I had the opportunity to visit and film at Rac Boutique!! Juliana Bennet, the designer of Mulcair was there to speak about her latest A/W collection. All of the guests were greeted by the lovely owners Glenna Weddle and Faith Orfus. Juliana was eager to speak about her designs and ensured she spoke to everyone in attendance. One of the things Juliana has tried to do is connect with bloggers and members of the media through Twitter and facebook. I received my invitation through Twitter as did other bloggers. It's a great way to spread the word and get people talking! Thanks Juliana for sharing your fantastic collection with us! A wonderful night :)

2011 Wearable Art Awards and Performance Extraordinaire!

Written by Treasure Seeker Colleen (Photography by C & C)

If you haven't been to the Wearable Arts Awards, it's time! I went for the first time last year and was bowled over by North American artists and their commitment to craft, design, recycling, culture, travel, the human journey and sharing all of this through wearable art. At the Port Moody Civic Centre, a red carpet was a fitting path for the dancing models, beautifully choreographed by Philippa Myler. Make up by Blanche MacDonald and Hair by James Blonde Salon, added a further dimension to this fabulous setting and we all had front row seats. Love that while the entries are judged by professionals from the field, there are people's choice awards too. I chatted with many attendees who were voting on Saturday but also to many others who were planning to visit the Port Moody Art Centre to get an even closer look at the exhibit before making a very difficult decision. How does one narrow the selection when every piece is fantastic? Last year I visited the exhibit at least twice, (couldn't get enough of it) and then attended the Awards Ceremony, which is on March 3, this time. This gave me an opportunity to actually meet the artists. What you will find when you attend The Wearable Art events, is that you are warmly welcomed by Andrew Danneffel, President of the Port Moody Arts Centre Society and staff. Any speeches (always concise and inspiring) reflect the high level of support from the city for Art and Artists. I really enjoyed Ann Kitching, (WA Committee Chair and moderator for this year's show) and her enthusiastic introduction and commentary that organized both the show and us.

"The Wearable Art Awards is committed to challenging artists in all media to create evocative, imaginative and though provoking sculpture for the human body", and every year, artists achieve this magnificently. The Wearable Art, for 2011 focused on recycling, honoring imagination, creativity and the ability to make the best use of what we already have and cut waste and pollution.

The materials used in the dresses, jewelry, headpieces, capes, jackets, wings, bras, structures, coats, and masks are those you would find in your everyday world but are used in vastly different ways. Consider Historical romance novel covers and bookmarks, in combination with tulle, silk organza and muslin for a Victorian silhouette, totally modern and wearable right now.

Think of only 52 Coke cans, Root Beer cans, an old house coat and foil, used in a dress with a message. (Too much pop? Recycle those cans? Be healthy? All of those and more) How about Recycled toys, ornaments, cards and teddies to " remind us of golden times gone past", memories that can be worn in two shining golden jackets - motorcycle get ready! What would you do with a foil cutter, chicken feathers, plastic bag, rayon, polyester and cotton yarns? Sharon Cahn from B.C., created a Chinook Headdress and her inspiration came from a scene in "The Loon's Necklace" a film she used in her teaching. A second headdress, also made by B.C artist, Meghan Carich is constructed of leather and raffia and represents "the beauty of night and the spirits of the forest playing "hide and seek."There are 53 awe inspiring pieces in the 2011 Wearable Art Awards Collection and I highly recommend that you see it and plan to attend or even create your own work for the next peformances on February 18 and 19, 2012! Thanks for welcoming me to the Port Moody Arts Centre and to the Wearable Art Awards for the second time. For more information visit wearableartawards.com.

Rachel Bilson at Burberry Fall 2011 Runway Show

A completely different look for the lovely Rachel Bilson. Here she is at London Fashion Week getting ready for the Burberry show. I think this look is a bit harsh on her and I'm not a fan of her hair pulled back like that...thoughts?

Thanks London Telegraph for the photo.

Fashion Group International "Social"

As some of you may know, I am filming a documentary for my M.A. final project. We attended the latest Fashion Group International event called FGI Social last week. The speaker was Alan Gee, partner and chairman of Blammo. He spoke about different advertising campaigns and ways we can get the word out about our products and companies using social media. There was even a live Twitter feed! It was inspiring to hear that there are many opportunities and that the future is bright. One of the things that I took away from the talk and that I have been realizing more with each day is the power of social media. We have to stay current and in tune with what's going on and that you can spread the word about a product using traditional advertising methods and social media. Bravo Alan and thanks to Fashion Group International for hosting such an amazing event! If you are interested in finding out more about the fashion scene in Toronto and all the latest trends, visit the Fashion Group International page and join today! They even offer discounts for students. Take a look!

Catching Up With Danielle Meder

Danielle Meder of Final Fashion has set off on an adventure to London. She is currently living, working and traveling around Europe. I thought it would be great to catch up with her and talk a bit about her latest fashion discoveries and experiences abroad! Check out her website at Final Fashion.

A: Have you been attending fashion events? What are the differences?

D: I've been lucky to attend a few fashion events, though not enough to be able to give a definitive list of differences. I am very much an unknown quantity here, and scoring event invitations is tricky. I'm sending out requests for London Fashion Week now, and I've never had to deal with such a high ratio of rejection before. So far, my impressions are: what I do is not remarkable or unique here - there are tons and tons of great bloggers, creative illustrators, image makers and independent creatives. Its inspiring and humbling. Its not that different than Toronto in a lot of ways, people are kind and fun and its easy to make friends. There is a much more international, less provincial flavour here of course - because cities are so much closer together, its common to meet many people from many different places. It is hard to tell if the scene is even that much larger just because its still so novel to me.

A: Where have you visited so far?

D: I've been lucky enough to go to Berlin and submit coverage to FLARE.com. I went to see the Dr. Martens factory. And of course, I've been thrilled to enjoy a lot of exhibits and museums.

A:
Favorite café or place where you are inspired

D: I like to sit in my room at night with the lights out, and daydream at night while looking over the lights of East London. There is a place in a park by my house, where there is a terrific view of The City skyline, and on sunny days I like to sit there. I enjoy picking up a filter coffee at Brick Lane Coffee and sipping it while wandering around my neighbourhood. Everywhere I go I meet new people and see new things. The whole experience of landing in an unknown city is inspiring.

A:
Where do you want to go next?

D: While living in London, I'm planning on making trips to Paris, Istanbul, Glasgow, and hopefully Berlin, again. There are so many exotic (to me) places within easy reach. I'm already thinking about other cities where I would like to live for a while as I am in London... I'd love to live in Montreal for a while, and of course someday soon I'd like to see how long I could hack it in New York City.

A: Danielle can you include one of your latest sketches and tell the story behind it?

D: I've attached a sketch I did at a live drawing session which was part of an event by an organization called All Walks, held at the National Portrait Gallery. It was a great little class with a big surprise at the end of it - one of my heroes, and this century's greatest living fashion illustrator, David Downton, came and offered his comments to the class, and specifically pointed out and complimented this illustration. It was truly a life highlight.

March Issue of Harper's Bazaar-Kim Kardashian and Karl Lagerfeld

Kim Kardashian graces the cover of the March issue of Harper's Bazaar. The photoshoot commemorates Elizabeth Taylor's role as Cleopatra in 1963. Kim interviewed Elizabeth Taylor for this story and discussed glamour and living like a legend. Kim has made quite the empire for herself, on that includes a hit tv show and a perfume line. To read the interview visit Harper's Bazaar here. The issue will be available on February 22!

Kim's Interview with Elizabeth Taylor (Click here for the full interview at Harper's Bazaar)

KIM KARDASHIAN : You are my idol. But I’m six husbands and some big jewels behind. What should I do?

ELIZABETH TAYLOR: I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands. For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else. I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things. But I have never felt more alive than when I watched my children delight in something, never more alive than when I have watched a great artist perform, and never richer than when I have scored a big check to fight AIDS. Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.

KK: You have starred in movies with some of the dreamiest men of all time: Rock Hudson, Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, James Dean, Paul Newman, Michael Caine, and Warren Beatty. Who else would you have loved to work with?

ET: I love Johnny Depp, and I love Colin Farrell—both brilliant, nuanced actors with great range.
