Adventures in Vancouver - Whistler, Squamish, Jericho, Spanish Banks and Yaletown
Happy Tuesday everyone! Here are a few shots from my whirlwind trip to Vancouver. It truly is one of the most beautiful places in the summer... emphasis on summer! It was great spending time with family and being out in the sun and up in the mountains away from all the city noise.
Friday, Treasure Seeker Colleen and I hit the fabulous Absolute Spa in the Century Plaza hotel. You can see a picture of us living it up on my Instagram here. Hands down it was one of the most spectacular spas I have visited and to let you in on a little secret... a meal is included in your visit! We enjoyed a patio lunch downtown shortly after and I tried out the Homer Street Cafe for the first time for dinner with my lovely friend Yana whose wedding I attended in Italy (see post here). You can see Instagrams from our delightful dinner here. It's really worth a visit!
Saturday my Dad took me on a jeeping adventure up to Whistler and the beautiful Lake Callaghan. You can read up on the area here. I have never off roaded in a jeep convertible and it was quite the experience. Really nice to get away from the busy city, spend time with family and see something beautiful and humbling.
Sunday we rented a Laser 2 sailing dinghy from the Jericho Sailing Centre for the afternoon. We sailed keel boats when I was growing up, but I haven't sailed properly in ages and haven't had a lot of experience with small dinghies. Nevertheless, we had perfect weather and the most spectacular views, when I wasn't anxiously waiting for the boom to fly over my head! I'm planning on taking lessons next summer to get a bit more experience.
Monday we had a beach barbecue on the beautiful shores of Spanish Banks. Barbecued chicken and vegies, Bocce, beach walks and more great time spent with family. I am so lucky to have such a great family around me and to have the option of jumping on a plane and being in one of the most beautiful cities in Canada... in the summer! (It rains most of the other months - I kid you not!)

Motivation Tuesday: New Year's Resolutions
Tuesdays are probably one of the hardest days to feel motivated. You're not quite at Wednesday, but at least you've passed the dreaded Monday! A little motivation for you:
Re-evaluating
- Check back in on your New Year's Resolutions. How are you doing? If you're not achieving your goals, re-evaluate: is there a compromise or adjustment you can make?
- Weather: Does it make you feel like staying cooped up at home? Bundle up and get out there! Whether the gym, an event or meeting a friend, you will feel much better once you get out!
- Resolutions - Don't worry if you haven't achieved everything yet. Just keep going and you WILL get there!
- My New Year's Resolution - See my original resolutions post here.
- Re-evaluating - My goal was to buy 5-7 key pieces for Spring. I may be able to stick to it, I may not. This weekend while out shopping with my friend, she helped me realize that you can adjust things budget wise. So in case I feel the need to express myself with a new look, I have allowed for a monthly clothing budget as well, JUST IN CASE!
- The first two pieces I bought this weekend did stick to the resolution - they are key pieces that I can wear with everything. A black blazer and a fun take on a spring trench. Zara has great sales on right now, if you can find something that isn't damaged! See looks below.

Review: The Penelopiad Starring Megan Follows
Yesterday I finally got to see The Penelopiad at Nightwood Theatre! As you may know, my undergraduate degree is in Classical Studies, and so when I heard Margaret Atwood's book was showing as a play, I jumped! I've never really been a fan of Margaret Atwood's books, but I loved The Penelopiad.
Synopsis:
Many of the Greek/Roman myths are centered around men and their great feats, but what happens at home while they are away? Penelope tells the story of waiting chastely for her long absent husband (20 years!), warding off suitors, raising her son, her relationship with her maids and weaving, weaving. She questions the "heroic actions" of her husband Odysseus, famously known as the trickster who created the Trojan Horse that destroyed Troy and the star of "The Odyssey". Penelope's twelve maids who protect her and ward off the suitors also interject throughout the play to recount the events from their perspective. The Penelopiad not only tells the story from Penelope's perspective, it aims to evaluate gender, class and the voicelessness that women endured during that time. The songs were beautiful and they used props and lighting in a way that I had never seen before. Megan Follows (Anne of Green Gables) was spectacular! This is a definite must see! Please note: I would not recommend this for a younger audience.
You can buy rush tickets about 30 minutes before the show and the minimum donation is $10. Nightwood Theatre is also running a fun campaign called "10,000 women". Donate $10 and choose a woman you would like to honor in your life. At the end of the campaign they are going to create an art exhibit with the 10,000 names! You can find out more information here.
A great way to spend a cold snowy afternoon
