Decades Bday Bash

Well this weekend was my official bday bash! It definitely hasn't been easy turning a quarter of a century old, but I am getting used to the idea now! Here are a few photos from the night. I found this dress at one of my favorite vintage shops and the owner shortened it for me. My fantastic sister sent me birthday money just in time for me to accessorize my outfit. I bought the shoes, gloves and sunglasses with it! Thanks Kate! My two fantastic friends, Branda and Mindy, made me a birthday cake (you would be surprised how difficult it is to find the right ingredients in Japan!) and Branda did our make-up. The theme of the bash was Decades. Everyone dressed up as a different decade. We had 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and the future! It was a great night full of adventures and a few hilarious encounters. Another birthday in Japan. Thanks to everyone for making it super special! While I have had two wonderful birthdays in Japan, I am thrilled that my time here is coming to an end and I will be heading home to Vancouver for a few weeks to visit with family in July and then off to Toronto to get started on my career!

Trying to be Audrey. An impossible
task!

Delicious bday cake!

Make up time!

Thanks to Ang for my fantastic compact!

The City Returns April 27th!

All of our favorite shows are finally returning! Gossip Girl has
been back since early March and now it is time for The City! This
season looks like it will be juicier than ever with Whitney debuting
her line and Olivia continuing her fast track up the Elle Magazine ladder.
Watch the trailer here!

Unfortunately this year we will be unable to watch
The City via Mtv.com as they have made it unavailable
to Japan.

Women's Shopping Night at The Bay Downtown Vancouver

Thanks to Neesha Hothi for giving us an early heads up on yet another popular Bay Fashion Night. There is always such an air of energy and welcome for all who attend. I would love to see the Fashion Shows start on the 5th floor, in the fabulous furniture section and wind down through to the third floor, where all the runway fashions would be ready to buy. The Bay truly has so much space and so much to offer that it could easily expand its offerings: think furniture, china, luxury sheets and towels - all as backdrops and settings for the models. The Bay's make-up and photography staff are excellent and make-overs could be photographed right away. This could be both a prize and/or a service people would be thrilled with. I know because I have a set of gorgeous portraits that are timeless and terrific! See photos from the previous September show here.

The evening began with an efficient and friendly registration and filling out of the prize possibilities: $250. NARS Gift Basket and a $75 INC Gift Certificate plus Halston Fragrances. I have been fortunate enough to win a Bay Gift Basket before and it was magnificent! I don't know of many opportunities to attend such great events with so many gifts, prizes and other treats. Imagine a Cupcake Dessert Station, a Wine Bar, Cosmos, Mario's Gelato and more. Where else does one go to be treated so well?

At 6:30 we saw a Fashion Show, lead by Kim Cathers, previously a contestant on Project Runway. It was almost like being on the show. Halston Heritage featured sequins, short jackets, and fantastic shoes. Rachel Roy featured classic shirts and sequins over black, pink, silver, ruffles, gingham dresses and cardigans, orange shoes and fuschia tops and lots of black and white. Anne Klein's long, patterned skirt and long, oversized cardigans over delicate dresses showed a modern contrast. We liked Jones New York with all of its gold and golden accessories.

We saw Pink Tartan, Sonia Rykiel, Ralph Lauren, Rachel by Rachel, Veda, Barbie, BCBD Generation, Ted Baker, DL 1961, Free People, Diesel, Clu, Top Vera Moda and Pants DL 2962, Beyond Vintage, Hanni Y, AndyTAnh, and Brochu Walker with sqequins, layers, jackets, short skirts, and everything we would love to be seen in walking down Robson and Granville! This was our own Project Runway and we could get made-up, get our portraits done, and really celebrate who we are. Go Vancouver. Go to the store that looks after you!

At 7:30, Crystal Carson from Vancouver's View Magazine consulted about Spring Accessory Wardrobing. Away Winter and Hello Spring! We needed this reminder about bright colours and banishing the ski jackets. Deanna Palkowski (2nd Floor Lingerie Expert) had more to say about bringing the light and bright in! Oh and with the silky lingerie comes longer eye lashes and Noir Longer Lashes had some suggestions, too.

All in all, as usual, The Bay is The Best! When the call comes, you should answer. You always have a great time at The Bay! Each show is unique and always features the latest. Something very special, though, is the invitation and the party. Thanks again, yours in fashion, Treasure Seeker, Colleen

Shida Tatsuya

During the two seasons I attended Japan Fashion Week,
I had the privilege of attending Shida Tatsuya's shows. Due
to the fact that I live in Okayama this year, I am unable to
attend but here is the invitation! Have a look at his website
here and previous Japan Fashion Week coverage here.

This year I will be visiting Kobe for Kobe Fashion Week.
It seems to be quite a bit different from Japan Fashion Week.
I am not quite sure what to expect but I hope to have a few
pictures for you!

Project Runway Season Seven Episode Eight

Here is my review for Project Runway Season Seven Episode Eight. An interesting challenge based on the four elements of earth, fire, air and water. The designers selected their elements out of a bag and had to create garments that represented them. There were a few dull duds but there were also some stunners. Seeing as we are nearing the end, I figured I would post all nine looks that went down the runway. Favorites?

Emilio's Design - Earth
A lot better than his washer macrame
bikini-look from episode seven.

Ben's Design - Water
Poor Ben. This was his first attempt at a
suit. He was overly ambitious and it just
didn't work out for him. The designers hated
the fit and the jock strap look over the pants.
Oh yeah and his Great White Shark theme.

Seth Aaron's Design - Air
Another solid garment from Seth Aaron.
This garment was interesting from every angle.
It was inspired by New York at night.

Mila's Design - Earth
Ew B-O-R-E! When she didn't have the option
of color blocking with black and white, she sent
this boring look down the runway. BLEH!

Maya's Design - Water
The sleeves were billowy and elegant
as the model walked down the runway.

Jonathan's Design - Air
YAY! Jonathan finally has a win under his belt!
His element was air and he decided to focus
on "laughter." What a fantastic garment! BRAVO!

Jay Nicolas's Design - Air
Another great one from Jay. He finished
early and even helped Ben with his garment.

Anthony's Design - Fire
My only qualm with this one was that it
looked similar to the look he created for

Amy's Design - Fire
Amy! What were you thinking? She
decided to fill her garment with hair. What?
I don't even know what to say...

Project Runway Season Seven Episode Seven

EEK! I am a little behind in my Project Runway write ups but I promise to catch up NOW! Here are the looks from episode seven. It was a hardware challenge. Designers were asked to create looks composed from pieces from a hardware store! It forced the designers to think outside the box. For some it was liberating...for others it was a challenge. Jesse's mettallic silver dress got him the boot and Jay Nicolas's design created out of garbage bags got him first place! Have a look at Jay's look, the leather pants getup. Can you believe those are garbage bags?! Favorites everyone?!

Anthony's Design
The judges said it was too soft and that he
misinterpreted the challenge. I thought it
was stunning.

Emilio's Design
Oh Emilio...he didn't buy enough washers
and was forced to create this bikini-like mess.
What a disaster. I couldn't believe he didn't get
the boot for this!

Jay Nicolas's Design
Jay was the winner of this challenge!
Yes...these are plastic garbage bags.

Jesse's Design
Sorry Jesse "you're out!"

Maya's Design

Mila's Design
Gah! Mila, when will you give up your
color blocking black and white scheme.
We are all B-O-R-E-D!

Seth Aaron's Design
Seth Aaron is always putting together solid
and interesting designs. I don't doubt he will
be in the final three.

Amy Winehouse Collaborates with Fred Perry

Amy Winehouse is working on a clothing line! Say again? Yes! She is working on a collaboration with Fred Perry to create a seventeen look collection for October. She has been wearing Fred Perry for a number of years and Marketing Director Richard Martin told WWD "Amy has a unique sense of style that reflects the brand's own historical reference points." Thoughts?

Another week and Another Weekend..Time Flies..

Another week has flown by and another fabulous weekend has come and gone. Here are two of my outfit choices from Saturday night. I ended up going with the second, but wished I had gone with the first because it was warmer. We ended up doing a lot of bicycling that night!

In other news I only have a month and a half before my next vacation and we have booked our tickets to Okinawa! You can see pictures from my trip there last year here. I can't believe I have been living in Japan for almost fifteen months! As much as I love beautiful and exciting Japan, I am excited to get on to the next adventure. I will be leaving Japan in July to visit home in Vancouver before starting the next adventure. I find out in July just exactly where that adventure will be!

Trying to play with colors and patterns
a bit more.

So excited for the weekend to finally be here!

This is what I ended up wearing.
These are actually my yoga pants!
