Outfits I Wore to Vancouver Fashion Week Fall /Winter 2023

When I dress for Vancouver Fashion Week, (and we all dress up, each season) my priorities include: eco fashion (thrift) local Designers, Artists and Businesses,  Colours, (I like bright) Countries (supporting Global Fashion Collective) and quirky and fun. What I wear each evening ties in with the Collections, too. VFW is prepares us well in advance of the week, with the schedule and Designer Bios. We all know Sponsors, one of which was Jaguar F-Type, so what goes with black and sleek? Bully Blocker, healthy skin for healthy life, is both eco and a reminder that healthy skin glows under those bright lights. 1664 BLANC, an alcohol free refreshment is in a bright blue bottle. Richard Wei Jewelry is not only a gorgeous collection but also a reminder to accessorize your look. There are a lot of considerations when thinking about an outfit.

April 12, 2023 Opening Night

I wore blue and yellow to pay tribute to the Ukrainian Flag and also to support Tetyana Golota's Love to Ukraine, opening runway show of the evening. My blue dress and yellow and blue scarves are by local Designer Shelley Klassen, whose Resort Wear brightened up the runway for the second show. Blue and gold necklace and earrings from Value Village Boutique in South Granville. Hair by Ryoko at Salon Soleil in Yaletown. Shoes from Wildlife Thrift Store on Granville. Illustrator, Forest Tomlin. @foresttomlinillustration, not only illustrated runway shows for the entire week, but also did guest illustrations and his own reels for each night. Ribbons for his sweater are from Dressew, a very popular craft/fabric supply business at 337 W, Hastings. On my instagram are 2 reels showing treasures to be found for every Fashion Week.

More details about shows,  Love to Ukraine and Shelley Klassen are live on the blog.

Reels for both shows as well as: Kurrizmatic (USA), PCYCl (Canada), Cerita Tur (Japan) Neithen Herbert (Mexico) and NIERCLOTHING (Japan) are also on my instagram @ctsoukalas.

My purple and yellow African Fabric was upcycled from a dress I bought from Value Village boutique in South Granville. Artist Sandi Bassett designed this bell sleeved coat and I wore it over yellow capris and yellow platforms from Wildlife Thrift Store on Granville. I accessorized it with  gold jewelry from Value Village boutique in South Granville. My purple silk blouse and bag are from My Sister's Closet Boutique (Main Street store or Commercial Drive store) Sandi Bassett, is an Artist and Designer, (wearing her up-cycled and hand painted denim) with EWMA (Enterprising Women Making Art) and you can find a a reel of their collection and other Designers, including Rolla Summers, on my instagram @ctsoukalas.

For the Design Schools, VCC Fashion and Lasalle College Vancouver, I wanted a more fun, informal look and chose Dog themed jewelry by Carolyn Bruce, dog necklace, earrings, bracelet, dog purse with collar and sign saying, BEWARE. A silk sports jacket, from Wildlife Thrift Store, with Kimono sleeves (shout out to the many Japanese Designers) and 60's patterned pants, and platform runners from Value Village boutique, were comfortable and edgy. Let There Be Fashion by VCC Fashion is on the blog, here: and there are reels for VCC,  and Lasalle, on my instagram @ctsoukalas.

On my Facebook at Clothes Line Finds, you can find a reel of the Day 4 Designers: Marco F Bruni, Atelier Ren Kimonoremake, Oraki, Alejandra SamniegoChynna Mamawal Atelier, Sayf Original ClothingUnserten Official, and Aylelum. It was a big, fantastically beautiful evening and for that, it was back to bright colours, for me: red dress from My Sister's Closet Boutique (my sister's closet boutiques at Main Street and Commercial Drive). My black jacket, also from My Sister's Closet Boutique,  is dark but so pleated and  custom, that it works. Silver and dog themed jewelry, a second set were ingeniously created by Carolyn Bruce and the shoes, well a tawny leather with turquoise and muticolored heels, from Fluevog, really shouted out the local business and the colours and style. These are years old and have not had to be resoled yet. As I look back, I am amazed at our Vancouver Fashion Week and its long history of support for local and international Designers.

Find reels for many of these Designers on my instagram @ctsoukalas.

Remember that these establishments are not authorized to take your Emergency passport photo. However, you may have your picture taken for the small postcard at any US Post Office or private company nationwide. Remembering this is essential if you ever find yourself in a bind and need one of these passports. If you don't bring photos, the processing time might increase by a few days.
