I'm writing this from back home in Toronto; slightly jet lagged and preparing for a busy week. I still can't believe all of the wonderful things I experienced on my Intrepid trip and am eager to take another one soon! Until then, summer cottaging will have to suffice :)
I didn't think anything could top Pompeii and Vesuvius from the day before (see post here), but of course Sorrento did! We stayed in a lovely family owned hotel and had two days to explore Sorrento. This part of the trip was great as I had become friends with several people on the tour and we spent our free days together exploring the city and attended group activities in the evenings. The beauty of Intrepid tours is that they take you to the sites, provide you with the information and then give you the freedom to see what interests you. There was a really good mix of group activity days and free days.
After arriving, our guide Mattea provided us with maps and led us around the city to ensure we knew where to go and how to get back to the hotel. In the afternoon we all decided to visit a glorious patio restaurant for lunch and to enjoy the cliff views and sun! After lunch we explored Sorrento, shopped and tasted gelato. We joined the group later in the evening for Limoncello tasting and dinner. Most days we spent out until about 4 or 5pm and then headed back to the hotel for an hour or two of quiet time/preparing for dinner which was usually at 7:30pm.
One of the most memorable experiences of this day was the dinner we attended on the beach! The restaurant was Trattoria de Emilia and was one of the best meals I had in Italy. I would highly recommend this restaurant for those of you planning on traveling to Italy this year.
Hope you enjoy the pictures and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the tour, Italy, etc. I hope these posts make you want to travel to Italy :)
