Shop for Jayu Event

I attended a Shop for Jayu event way back in the summer and haven't had a chance to post it yet, but I am thrilled to share an interview with the designer Sally Han!  She was so friendly and helpful at the event and her jewelry is unique and affordable.

A: What inspired you to get into the jewelry business?
Sally:  I was inspired by two girls who started a bag business called Koie.  During that time I was driven to do more with my life and decided to play around with jewelry making.  When I was 19, I made a few designs and had the opportunity to launch my line at an event raising funds for "Lost children".  I was amazed with the feedback I was receiving and I decided to make it my full time business.

A: You now have two lines of jewelry (Shop for Jay and Psalms 91:1)  What are the differences between the two lines and what are the inspirations?
Sally:  Psalms 91:1 Accessories is our main company, the head sister line.  Its main purpose is to make a difference in the world using the gift of jewelry making and inspiring others to do the same.  The end vision for Psalms is to one day build infrastructures in refugees in Korea, Africa and Canada.  We continue to keep our designs organic and hand crafted rather than manufactured.

In order to raise enough funds for this vision to come true, we needed our sister line Shop for Jayu which is a line that is designed and hand crafted by different designers in Korea.  This line is strictly sold under $60 so that we will have faster cash flow to support Psalms.

What is your own personal jewelry style and what styling advice would you give today?
Sally: My own personal style with jewelry is very simple.  Even when wearing bold pieces I like to keep it simple and clean.  I love edgy, manly pieces the most, nothing too feminine.  I think my personal style definitely reflects my designs.

The styling advice I would give is, wear pieces you feel comfortable in.  And think outside of the box!  Don't be afraid to mix gold and silver, hard and soft, masculine and feminine.

A: What are your top three favorite pieces for this fall?
