Karl Lagerfeld's Interactive Website

Sometimes I forget how much fun school can be sometimes. Our professors are especially amazing at finding cool websites, new technologies and great youtube videos. Yesterday we were talking about Media Aesthetics and how they have changed over time. We eventually got into websites and we got to take a look at Karl Lagerfeld's interactive website. It is one of the best I've seen and if you have even a few minutes you should definitely take a look! Visit Karl Lagerfeld here. He has some amazing photos, videos and you can view previous collections. Bravo Karl!

Fashion Group International Sample Sale-Gold Cuff

I went to a fantastic sample sale held by Fashion Group International Toronto on Thursday and got this gold cuff (see images). I will be posting on that event and the amazing things I saw! I decided to play around with gold and black a bit and here are a few shots I came up with. Being a student after working full time for almost two years has made me realize that you can do a lot with your outfits by changing up the accessories. I am just wearing a simple black skirt and top and have added the gold cuff, different belts and of course my favorite gold Fendi scarf that I thrifted from somewhere along my travels!

What a great idea! A scarf!!

Furi's new Spring/Summer 2011 Collection

Canadian label FURI has just launched their first Spring/Summer 2011 knitwear collection. They are primarily an outerwear based company but this year they decided to create a line of women's wear made of soft jersey and cashmere. Designers Steven Lee and Susan Gauvin say the collection consists of tees, tanks, tunics, dresses and skirts in a soft color palette of blues, greys pearl and lilac prints. The perfect pieces for a minimal but chic day look. All pieces are made in Montreal. Visit their website here for more information.

Carlie Wong at Du Jour

Written by Treasure Seeker Colleen

Love the work of Carlie Wong, a young Vancouver Designer who has been featured on Project Runway as well as at Fashion Weeks all over the place. Great to see that our local media pays attention too: Georgia Straight, Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Magazine and Vancouver E-Zine, and more. Got a chance to meet her and some gorgeous samples "From other Seasons" at Du Jour, a boutique and gallery @ 628 Abbot in Vancouver. Carlie, who doesn't own a pair of jeans, was wearing the highest, strappy black heels and of course, one of her beautifully designed outfits. I noticed how her clothes softly draped the display models as well as those who were snapping up those terrific little black dresses, trench coats, tops, capes and accessories. Saw not one centimeter of plastic thread, just fantastically designed and tailored creations. Overheard someone in the changing room, who was jetting off to Toronto for a fashion weekend, saying: "This is a classic and no-one else will have anything remotely like it. Have to have it." Greatly admire a designer who has her own label, a big following and is such a great model for her own line.

Du Jour's owner, Klay Kaulbach enthusiastically explained that the boutique is in its second year and that there are two prices on each piece: one for purchase and one for borrow. He has an email list and is on Facebook and Twitter so you can keep up with the sample sales, events and fashions by a whole host of designers.

Not much time to talk as I was busy looking at the store windows and decor and all of the purses, clothing and jewelry/accessories and imagining wearing it all to one of Du Jour's fancy and fun events. You can visit Carlie's website here and DuJour's here.

A Few Images from Ivan Sayers' Collection

Written by the FABULOUS! Treasure Seeker Colleen in Vancouver

Having just completed the second of Ivan Sayers' Fashion History Courses offered through the SFU Downtown Campus, we were invited for tea and another look through a vast collection of clothing and accessories 1650 ++. There are photos, furniture, books, mannequins, stained glass windows, and clothes, shoes, hats, handbags and feathers of all kinds. This is like a research library; everything is stored in labeled boxes and you can investigate your specific area of interest. You can't take anything home though because the items are part of the collections Ivan curates and organizes for shows, for charities, for courses, for garnering support for a new fashion museum and many other great causes. This year, Ivan received the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from the BC Museums Association. He is truly a Canadian and local Fashion Icon and will be teaching another course at SFU downtown, so sign up if you want to see how the past shapes the present and how everything old is new again. For more information about Ivan Sayers, have a look at the June 2010 issue of Vancouver Fashion eZine magazine and see the article "Evidence of the Past" by Marilyn Wilson, or go to www.ocms.ca

Treasure Seeker Colleen and Anthea in Toronto!

I may not be living in Vancouver now, but at least I am living in Canada! After almost two years in Japan, I must say it is pretty nice to be living in Canada again. Toronto is the most spectacular city! A few weeks ago, Treasure Seeker Colleen, my fantastic Mom and now fashion blogging partner came to visit me in Toronto. You can see her posts here as she is now the Vancouver correspondent for this blog!

It was great to have her visit! Most of the time it doesn't seem like we are very far away as we often talk on skype and the phone. Nevertheless you always miss your family! We had a great time going to Toronto LG Fashion Week (I worked backstage..but more on this in another post), going to the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Beaches and all of my favorite restaurants and shops. Thanks for another exciting adventure :)
