With Love Lingerie Sample Sale

As you may remember I teamed up with Carrie of With Love Lingerie (see post here) a while back for a contest for a fabulous bustier!  Well now she has teamed up with Nearly Naked Lingerie and is having a great sample sale.  Alas, I'll be on a jet plane to San Diego to get hitched...but that doesn't mean you can't go!

Gingerbread Houses - A Gateway to Fond Old Memories

Writing for the blog for the first time, Stephen Li,  student, chef, musician and fellow blogger!

Rooms full of Gingerbread houses welcomed us to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver.  They were lovingly and very skillfully constructed by Cooking Schools, Businesses, Charitable Foundations and by various lower mainland schools, both public and private.  Loved the entries by Churchill and David Thompson, especially!  But the first place award (although they all were winners) was titled simply "Waiting For Santa" and was a child's room and toy box containing everyone's most wanted gifts, past and present!  It was the brainchild of Vancouver Community College's team and how lucky we are to have these masters graduating into our restaurants, bakeries, hotels, catering agencies and much more!  Everyone was delighted to see royal icing, marzipan, rolled fondant, pastillage, chocolate modelling paste, rice krispies, smarties and candies of all sorts, and colours and trees and snow, and cabins and santas and dream houses and oh just go and see it to see the food and Christmas of your dreams!  What attracts people to the Gingerbread Houses Display, every year, is not only that they want to see what can be created but also that they may remember making their own houses and tree decorations!  Sweet Dreams for all!

Valentino Virtual Museum

Valentino has done it again.  Even though he sold his label, he is still re-creating, changing with the times and leading the way yet again.  At a press conference last Friday, hosted by Anne Hathaway, Valentino revealed his new virtual application that allows one to walk travel through an exquisite archive of his work.  This virtual world would actually span 10,000 square meters in the real world. The cost of the application is free and merely serves the purpose of maintaining Valentino's legacy by allowing all to have access to his work.

Last week I visited the Bata Shoe Museum for a Manitobah Mukluks party!  There was a mix traditional and dance music and a fantastic array of mukluks.  Manitobah Mukluks has some very unique designs and puts a great spin on the traditional moccasin (see images below).  To learn more about the history of the mukluk www.manitobah.ca.  One of the great things about Manitobah is that they work with the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development (CAHRD).  They also provide an education bursary for Aboriginal students to attend college or university. See their facebook page for more event photos! Thanks to Lotus Leaf too!

Mukluk Cake!

These are perfect for all of the cold weather we have been having as of late!

Superdry Men's and Women's Collections

I just heard about this fantastic new site called Superdry and I have to say it really reminds me of my time in Japan.  The fashion there is truly unique and out of this world.  In Japan people take a lot more risks with their fashion and style and I truly admire that.  Superdry was inspired by a trip to Tokyo in 2003 and blends Japanese graphics and vintage Americana all the while featuring perfect British tailoring.  I thought I would share a few of my favorite pieces.   The women's wear is super casual, but there are a lot of must have accessories and their jackets are fantastic.  I am a big fan of their mens tees.  I'm always trying to style my man, but he has a mind of his own and I don't get to give much input on what he wears.  Perhaps that's a good thing, because he has great style all on his own. Lucky me! ;)  I've featured a few of my favs below.

You'll go nowhere in Toronto without a great big scarf! Brrr
Diving Bell Snood

Even though it's a bit colder now, you can still pull off a great leather jacket
like the Tarpit

Gotta love a man in a vintage inspired T!
