Nicola Formichetti's Mugler Spring 2012

Nicola Formichetti has done it again. He has produced a unique and interesting collection, inspired this year by old Italian films by Fellini, Pasolini and Caligula. Many of the models donned armor like pieces, which were inspired by Sen Seia, a Japanese cartoon character. To read an interview with Nicola in Dazed and Confused and to see backstage photos from the show click here. Formichetti also released a video to coincide with the collection which is rather racy! It features men in nothing but bathing suits! You can find it at New York Mag.

A few Photos from Powerball Thirteen in Toronto

Having only lived in Toronto since August, I was unaware of the Powerball event. Several attendees of the YYZ Living Magazine Launch said they were going to the big Powerball Thirteen event. It is a fundraiser held by the power plant every year and if the photos are any indication, it was one fun party! Here are some images thanks to Toronto Life and you can read The Backseatstylers and It's All Style to Me for more photos and a personal look at the event!

Yep a pig on a spit!

Kate Bosworth at "Life Happens" Premiere

Love this look Kate Bosworth wore to the premiere of the new film she is co-starring in, "Life Happens." The dress is Richard Nicoll and the heels are Chloe. Thoughts? Both Jason Biggs and Rachel Bilson starred in this film. Should be good!

Guess Flagship Store Opening 2011

What a crazy Thursday night! This Thursday Anne Cayer (of Life in the Moderate Lane) and I were invited to the launch of the new Guess store on Queen! It was a great event with entertainment that included Keshia Chante and of course a fab photo booth! Visitors lined up to give the photo booth a try and received a souvenir print out of their photo. It seemed like people were buying a lot and just having a great time! I know that it's summer and bright colors and prints are in, but I just couldn't resist wearing this little number I got at a second hand shop in Montreal. Thanks Lotus Leaf and Guess for a great event!

Gifts with purchase

What a blast this group was!

Oh Those Seventies Jeans!

I had a friend ask me about the comeback of seventies jeans. She said she had seen them on chictopia and wondered if she could pull them off. Here are some images of celebs that have pulled the look off well. My advice is pair them with a basic tank or fitted but flowing top and a great pair of wedges or heels. The height the heels provide is crucial to lengthen your frame when wearing jeans like these! Keep the accessories simple, the jeans are enough for the outfit, you don't want to look like you've got too much going on. Try simple gold bracelets and earrings to accessorize this look. TADA!

Beach Bombshells & Bathing Beauties Fashion Show at Scout Boutique

On Friday, June 10, the sun and models lit up Scout Boutique, 152 East 8th, Vancouver. This is a retro little store, just off Main, that invites you in to look gorgeous in the clothing, bathing suits, (yes, those) accessories and much, much more. There is a full range of sizes as the creative and skillful (perfectly smoothly in towering high heels -best looks ever all the way down the red carpet) models so aptly show to best advantage. The staff - all friendly and superbly attired - guide customers to vintage curtained dressing rooms, where I promise you'll never see fish white skin, ever. Must be the soft pink lighting - no harsh lightbulbs or sharp edged metal hangers or chairs. Look for Paris, Italy or Spanish Banks - anything bought here will be perfect. If you want more tips on Vintage Hair and Make Up, you can sign up for small classes at stylemevintagevancouver@gmail.com and talk with Nicole.

Nicole Stewart and Misty Greer

Scout Boutique's staff are excited about the clothing: how it's displayed, how it's worn and how it evolves to reflect trends but is always classic and beautifully fitted. You won't find any heaps or barrels or bins. You won't find any loose stitches, plastic threads or fragile, impractical wisps. Things are created to fit people who move and flirt and dance and swim. Accessories are also well made and I especially loved the Wicked Purses by Rachel Caffrey. (Modeled by Chevvy Piston)

Thanks to Nicole Stewart for the heads up for this Fashion Show; where she is, fun follows! She introduced me to Misty Greer, designer of TRUNKSHOW: "Clothing For Those Who Prefer To Be The Spectacle, Not Just The Spectator." " TRUNKSHOW creates future vintage attire that is meant to be worn, treasured and passed from one seductively rebellious generation to the next." Misty knows how to design for all shapes and sizes and styles up the West Coast, for sure.

Soak Swimwear Vancouver was introduced. This has been developed by two beach lovers and is now in its third year. It began in the Philippines and is available in China, Shanghai and Singapore. Their goal is "to bring a touch of the tropical island sun to brighten one's day and be beach chic all year round."

Pinup Couture and Dixiefried features a 40's outline that accentuates the curves and draws the eye with polka dots, leopard and sailor come hither looks.

The pictures show more than words can describe. You can read more in the Georgia Straight, Thursday the 16th issue. What you won't hear is the sun sounds of the playlist by Teddy Smooth who can be contacted at cabaradio@gmail.com.

Emma Watson's American Vogue Cover Yay or Nay?

Well here is Emma Watson's Vogue cover for next month! I despise it. I love her and she is very talented and beautiful, but this cover does her no justice. This is supposed to be summer! The look would suit a winter cover more and I also think the look is too mature for her. Thoughts? Yay or Nay?

The Case for Falling in Love Review

I recently read an interesting and insightful book, "The Case for Falling in Love. The author Mari Ruti refers to many love self help books, such as: "Men are from Venus" and "He's Just Not that Into You". I have never actually read any self help books on love but I know that we are faced everyday with the "dos" and "don'ts" in the world of dating. As much as I'd like to say I don't listen to a lot of the silly rules, I feel like they are ingrained in us. We start learning at a young age through magazines like Seventeen and then continue on with Cosmopolitan. I didn't realize how many stereotypes women are faced with until I read this book.

Mari Ruti looks at the many stereotypes and traditional thoughts that women are raised with and think they have to adhere to. It was a really interesting read and challenged me to think about relationships. I particularly enjoyed the chapter called "For Better Romantic Advice, Watch Gossip Girl". She admits that it is difficult to compare it to the classical literature young audiences once read, but that Gossip Girl is what young audiences are watching now and that a lot can be gleaned from it. I agree in the sense that it teaches young audiences to talk with each other about their problems and to communicate with their friends and partners.

Mari Ruti sets out to empower her female readers in finding love, losing love and maintaining our happiness in the midst of it all. She sets up all of those rules we are raise with like: playing hard to get, playing helpless, manipulation and just plain trying too hard. After setting them up, she explains why they are ridiculous and why we should live our lives, make ourselves happy first and not listen to that nonsense! You are ultimately all you have and if you don't make yourself happy first, how can you make another happy?

I also really enjoyed the chapter, "A Love Failure Is Not a Life Failure". Just because a love didn't work out, doesn't mean that it is a failure in our lives. We learn something new through each relationship we have in our lives and gain something, even if we lose that someone. We tend to blame ourselves and try to understand what it is that we did wrong, because of course, it is OUR fault. Sometimes things just don't work out and we have to accept them for what they are and move on and always, no matter what, live life to the fullest.

I highly recommend this book, not just for the relationship advice, but for the interesting evaluation of what we can learn through pop culture and the sound life advice. We can always use a little boost and some reassurance to be strong and successful in our relationships and in our lives. Readers will find humor, entertainment and a unique perspective in "The Case for Falling in Love"!

Lela Rose Resort 2012

Love this collection by Lela Rose this resort season. Full of bright and vibrant colors, elegant lines and classic silhouettes. With summer finally here, all I want to wear is colorful patterns and prints. It is also so hot already that dresses and light fabrics are a must! Here are my top five looks from this collection.

Yigal Azrouël Resort 2012

Another stunning collection from Yigal Azrouël this resort season. Love the color blocking and reds, blacks and whites. Each and every piece could be matched with any wardrobe and give the look of a sophisticated and very put together woman. Flared pants and ankle length skirts continue to be popular this season. Are you wearing them?
