Project Runway - Episode 11

Happy Friday everyone! This weekend is going to be full of excitement and fun events. I am participating in FMA Vancouver on Saturday September 27 and Swap-o-Rama-Rama on Sunday. Hope to see some fellow Vancouver bloggers at some of the events!

Before I get into any critique about Project Runway today I have to say that I cannot believe they kept Kenley on the show. Someone who disrespects her superiors and can't take constructive criticism does not deserve to be on the show. Tim Gunn's blog on bravotv received 337 comments this week! I think a lot of people were disappointed to see Suede leave and Kenley stay. Thoughts anyone?

This week's episode was definitely more entertaining than last week's! I am really looking forward to next week's episode. It looks like there is going to be lots of tears and perhaps a meltdown??! The designers had to design looks for each other based on musical genres. They were given one hour for planning and sketching, a budget of $150 and one day for this challenge. LL Cool J was a guest judge and I think he didn't look overly impressed with the results of this challenge.

Leanne
This supposed hip hop outfit was designed for Leanne by Kenley. EEK! This is not hip hop. Neither the pants nor the jeans seemed to fit right. Kenley proceeded to argue with everyone who attempted to give her suggestions and insisted that THIS was hip hop!

Suede
This punk themed outfit was designed by Korto for Suede. Korto won this challenge. Congratulations to Korto! The jeans and sneakers are treated with bleach. Suede totally rocked the runway!

Korto
This country themed look was designed by Leanne for Korto. While it looks elegant, the judges said that she didn't take it far enough. I don't particularly like the gold belt. The skirt did look amazing on the runway and I think Korto really got into the role.

This pop themed look was designed for Kenley by Jerell. It's Kenley Spears! I still can't believe they kept her in the competition after this challenge! Jerell really transformed Kenley into a pop star for this challenge. He was a close second.
This rock themed look was designed by Suede for Jerell. The judges said that this looked like normal every day Jerell :( Suede lost this challenge and I was really sorry to see him go. He had really grown on me.

Milan Fashion Week Favorites

This week is Milan Fashion Week. September is such an exciting time! I chose a few of my favorite looks from designers that have presented collections so far this week. Any favorites yet?

Missoni

Missoni

Dolce and Gabbana
I found most of the D & G pieces a little flashy but these are a few favorites. I think they could be toned down individually. But hey, at least they put on a great show!

Dolce and Gabbana

Blumarine
Simplistic but a beautiful collection full of beautiful corals and floral patterns.

Beauty and the Boy Fashion Show

Last Friday September 19th we attended the Beauty and the Boy Fashion show at The Bay. The show was coordinated by Neesha Hothi and hosted by Mashiah Vaughn of Open Sundaes and Jason Dussault of Dussault Apparel. Wine and appetizers were served before the fabulous runway show began and each attendee received a swag bag, a gift from Open Sundaes and a beautiful fresh rose! The show featured four scenes : Sport Spectacular, Haute Hotties, Posh and Preppy and Strut the Streets. Some of the labels featured in the show included: Bench, Kersh, Mantinique, Jack and Jones, Kensie, DKNY, Vera Moda, Karta, Dussault, Lady Dutch, Guess, Betsey Johnson and Calvin Klein.

After the fashion show Vancouver fashionistas flocked to the Make Up Forever station to have their make-up done and photos taken Fashion Photo Shoot style. We had our make-up done and our photos taken which I will post as soon as I receive them. I met the fabulous Timothy Hung who is a hair, clothing and make-up stylist with Make-Up Forever. I will be posting some more information about his work in the near future. Greg Swales took the photos at the photo booth and was truly patient and fun to pose for! There was also an Ed Hardy air brush tattoo station as seen on the fabulous recap of the event that Style by Fire wrote on Style Finds. I can't wait for the next Bay fashion show!

I was there super early..before the crowds!

Plaid!

Some cute leather jackets were featured in the show.

We decided he was by far the best male model! He was very animated :)

Wrapping things up.

I would love to hear what you thought of the event if you attended!

Project Runway-Episode 10

Well this week's episode was definitely not what I was expecting! After watching the previews last week I thought the designers were going to be required to make garments for teachers. Instead, the episode revolved around the designers creating new looks for recently graduated university students. The designers are given thirty minutes to sketch, a budget of $100 and two days to complete the challenge. BORING! To be honest, I thought they could have at least done Moms and daughters! My mom was rather hurt by Leanne's "No one wants to design gowns for old ladies" comment! Unfortunately the designers always seem to miss the mark when it comes to creating looks for everyday! I was really disappointed with this episode. Perhaps I should take the Vancouverista's advice and watch Project Runway Australia. This is getting bad....

Suede
What is this? What are the sleeves? Does this look like a photographer's wardrobe? The dress is quite cute, but the fit of the jacket is all wrong. This just looks dowdy!

Leanne
I actually don't mind this jacket, but the judges hated it. They said it looked old fashioned. Again, the dress underneath is quite cute. The designers really had a tough time with the jackets. Perhaps this is why I have had so much trouble finding cute suit jackets that fit properly!!!!

Korto
The judges really liked this jacket and dress. First of all, I think it's too short. The jacket doesn't seem to go with the dress either. It just isn't a very polished and professional look.

Kenley
She was a complete snot when she was asked about this look. She said she thought this would be a perfect look for Elle magazine. I wonder if they will actually keep her in the competition. She can only make fifties style dresses.

Joe
Sorry Joe, you're out! The fit of this garment is terrible. I don't like the red booties either.

Jerell
Jerell wins! This is definitely the best look.

Spring 2009 Ready to Wear-Christian Siriano

A perfect post for a Monday! Last week Christian Siriano presented his Spring 2009 Ready to Wear Collection at New York Fashion Week. After watching Christian's show Tim Gunn stated that he is "his generation's Mark Jacobs." He has made the transition from Project Runway to designer seem effortless and is already working on many exciting projects. He is creating a complete couture collection to appear in Eloise in Paris starring Uma Thurman as well as releasing a book. Here are some of my favourites from his magnificent collection.
