This beautifully designed style guide, published in 2015, is by Anya Sacharow and Shawn Dahl and contains 175 fabulous street photographs by Sioux Nesi. By street photographs, I mean carefully curated looks that you and I could put together and wear on our daily journeys. These are colorful, natural and captivating looks, rather than runway or showroom outfits. They are ageless, co-ordinated in creative ways and using pieces that you already have, plus those treasures you might seek out at thrifts, vintage and those special sales. Having recently visited Manhatten, I am now ready to take on Brooklyn, especially with my trusty new guide.
Missing Bill Cunningham, iconic NYC Street Photographer, I was immediately drawn to the blue, yellow and red pattern of this book jacket. Picked it right up to see a quote from Anna Wintour: "Who knew that so many of us reside in our mind's eye in some-hipper-than-hip outpost of Brooklyn." And next, chapter titles: "Make Your Own Rules, Dress For Life, Don't Fuss, Embrace The World, Love The Street", just a few of the ten that make dressing stylishly well, easier and more fun. So many challenges every day but, as Bill Cunningham says: "Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life."
After reading "Brooklyn Street Style, I took my yellow, red and white Rolling Stones T-Shirt, (Global Atomic Designs 1144 Mainland St. Vancouver) and matched it up with a coral necklace and punk bracelet and will wear this with white jeans and red converse runners or with blue jeans and blue converse runners with yellow daisies. Or how about with my white cage skirt, with hints of all of these colors, very subtle, very unexpected. Oh and red pumps and maybe my lips necklace. Oh, but then I have giant red lipstick earrings....possibilities are endless.
