Texas: San Antonio River Walk and Cruise

Happy Monday all! I'm back in Toronto and ready to get this New Year started! Will be continuing to post some of my Texas adventures over the coming weeks :) Hopefully the green and sun in these posts are a welcome escape from the current Toronto ice and snow we are experiencing!

On my third day in Texas, we decided to take a day road trip to San Antonio. About an hour and a half drive away from Austin, San Antonio is a city with an eventful history and a fantastic art museum! It is also has the seventh largest city population in the US (source). More to come on the art museum soon!

San Antonio is one of the oldest European settlements in Texas. It is famous for Spanish mission, the Alamo. We took a quick tour through the barracks/mission where the Battle of Alamo took place in February 23 to March 6, 1836. It was great to learn a bit about the history of Texas and the battles that were fought for its independence. I won't attempt to give you any an in-depth recount of the history, but will recommend reading a bit about it here

We also visited the River Walk and spent some time enjoying the patio in the afternoon. Around dark, we took a river cruise that was beautifully lit up with Christmas lights and decorations. Another spectacular and very exciting day in Texas!

Love these Texas posts, I've never visited but have always wanted to. I'm hoping to make 2014 the year I finally get there!
