Getting Ready for Eco Fashion Week with Colleen and My Sister's Closet

Written by Colleen Tsoukalas (Treasure Seeker Colleen)

My Sister's Closet (1092 Seymour, corner of Helmcken) is a vibrant Yaletown thrift store that attracts many with its $5 sale racks outside and gorgeous window displays (see programs site here).  Inside, people are warmly welcomed and shown the latest, locally made jewelry, cards and those 'treasures' that might be the perfect fit. Customers are asked if they are aware that the store is a resource to support battered women and their children.  Information about programs and services is readily available.

There is a team effort, at this store, to encourage the exchange of skills and experience and to build community.  A great example of this is how staff, volunteers, local artisans, customers, students, families and friends have come together to produce The My Sister's Closet Runway show for Eco Fashion Week, April 24th at 6:30. This production, expertly and enthusiastically organized, styled, photographed and modelled, is a fantastic display of 'Sisterhood Swagger'.  It is empowerment, creativity, ingenuity and thoughtful, responsible selection and use of thrifted, recycled, and upcycled materials - fashion with a conscience.  Expect to see: Classic, Vintage, Floral, Funky and Fabulous.

You can buy your ticket to the runway show on April 24 here and read about the show here.

Stay tuned for more coverage of Eco Fashion Week with Colleen.
