New York Fashion Week Fall 2009 RTW Satruday February 14!

Saturday's New York Fashion Week Shows brought a lot of different designers to the table but only a few were show stoppers! Puffy sleeves and architectural pieces seem to be a recurring theme throughout many of the collections. I am undecided on the whole puffy sleeve thing..tight and architectural..I can handle but those huge puffy sleeves just aren't flattering! There were several collections that made it hard to choose only a few to highlights for this post. What did you think of the fifty years of Barbie Collection? I thought it was the top show of the day!

Verrier
Ashley Verrier was inspired by the film "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" for this season's collection. There were frilly dresses and playful dresses. Many of the pieces were embellished with rhinestones! This pink dress (left) would suit all body tights and the black trench (right) simple yet playful. The collection proved it's versatility with both day and evening wear pieces.

Ohne Titel
Alexa Adams and Flora Gill presented their collection for Ohne Titel on Saturday and showed a collection full of dark colored pieces. There were browns, blacks, greys and even a few shimmery numbers. Many of the pieces had unique cuts and draping. Leather and motorcycle jackets were also recurring pieces in the lineup. This cropped jacket (right) is a great play on the motor cycle jackets that are appearing on blogs around the world. There were many cut out tights which helped to give it a bit of a grungier edge! After graduating in 1999, both designers worked for separate houses, including Karl Lagerfeld! They founded this label in 2006. You can visit their website here.

Lacoste
While I am not normally a huge fan of Lacoste, I was quite inspired by their Fall Collection. There were many great basic casual wear pieces as well as some magnificent jackets. I loved the white theme they used throughout the lineup. Christopher Lemaire titled this the Black collection! I think these coats are versatile and look sophisticated, yet casual at the same time. Is that possible? The runway seemed to look great in every picture. The changing lights create a beautiful contrast to the stark whites! Visit their website here.

Isn't this a great hood?

Love the lines!

Edition
This is the first Ready To Wear Collection for Designer Georges Chakra of Edition. The WWD Staff weren't too keen on his collection, calling it "flashy partywear." I got a real kick out of it though. I thought it was fun and playful and showed a bit of humor compared with some of the more serious collections presented so far. Don't you love this dress on the right? There were also some shimmery gowns and elegant trenches. You can visit his website here and there are some magnificent gowns to see!

Barbie Runway Show
What a collection for the celebration of fifty years of Barbie!! It was full of fun and humor and created by a group of fabulous designgers (selected by the CFDA) including: Michael Kors, Kimmora Lee Simmons, Bob Mackie, Alexander Wang and Rachel Roy! According to WWD, Barbie's closet already consists of 150 million yards of fabric and one billion shoes! Wow! Now that's a closet. Bravo !

Check out the glasses!

Japan Update!

My fabulous friend Miss Leah Bell has featured some photos from our adventure to Fujinomia this weekend. We attended an International Festival! There is a picture on her blog of her and I learning calligraphy. She made Ai (love) and I made Ume (dream). Do check it out, it's a great blog especially if you are interested in design! There were more by MERCURA NYC in the Barbie Turns 50 show, very elaborate in twists of spikes and siler beads and golden ears and daisies.
