Donated Fabric - Quilting For A Great Cause - Supporting Women in Crisis

Recently, we had a 'passing of the quilt' ceremony at My Sister's Closet, a boutique thrift store whose proceeds go to support battered women. A year ago, a customer, Lily came in to donate some beautiful fabric. We said that it would be great to make a quilt, especially because nothing goes to waste and nothing goes to the landfill from our store. So Bobbie Yoshihara, a volunteer and master quilter, got her quilting friends together and they created this beauty. She says that the pattern was created as a way of bringing the fabrics and colors together. First is the pattern, then the fabric, then the borders. She says sometimes the quilt happens as you go along. In other words, you might not start with a grand design but eventually, you might end up with one. Her friends helped because of their love of quilting and for their belief in the cause. We celebrated with Sage Transition House as this is where the quilt will give a warm hug to women and children in crisis. Big thanks to Samantha and Brooklyn for organizing and to all the volunteers and friends who joined in the celebration. Thanks also to customers whose daily donations (year round) go such a long way!
