Lego, Lego and More Lego at The Good Art Show, Aug. 25-28th Vancouver

Victoria Clements, dynamic organizer of the best ever shows, events, exhibitions and more, brought 15 Vancouver Artists together at the iconic Waterfall Building, 1540 W. 2nd, for four days of artists working, models being painted, masks being built, superheroes moving and time for meeting, story telling, viewing, buying and celebrating a vibrant ongoing gallery of talent. As always, she posts the best photos, usually right on opening night. How she does this, we don't know. We get the invitation, see her, a flash of blue eyes and red hair, see the best talent ever and then, before we even get home, the photos are up. You can see them here.

These are occasions to dress for and for this one I wore my favorite Rolling Stones T-shirt from the coolest fashion clothing/footwear/coffee/meeting place, ever: GLOBAL ATOMIC DESIGNS 1144 Mainland Street. To match the red lips, I wore my red lipstick earrings and steel punk bracelets from My Sister's Closet. Red Converse runners from Value Village, white rubber cage skirt, minus cage (art = freedom, not cages) and black vest from the depths of my overstuffed one bar closet.

Because my kids are nuts about Lego, I had to see artist Simon La Plant's Lego Performance Masks and Lego people. His work, (on vimeo here) is designed for so many reasons, very importantly though to promote wellness and anti-bullying. An artist for more than two decades, he wears his work around the city, not only to share it but also to try it out, how it feels, how it moves, how it encourages interaction and community building. I am sure that everyone likes to receive their own lego pieces to get started. How this work would animate stores and store windows. How much it would enhance runways. Wow, imagine the Vancouver Art Gallery with the Lego people on the central staircase. And that is the whole point, right! To look, to imagine, to take the work into your own world.

Thanks to Victoria Clements for this fantastic showcase. And to the artists, hats off and bow.
