The Onassis Cultural Center, New York City

On my first alone day in NYC, I spotted the brave blue and white Greek Flag overhead and had to go and investigate. Welcomed, into a stunning two story building, glass and white, the eye is drawn upward to the friezes: horses, warriors, stories and songs. Downstairs is the exhibition site, this time one about a recent excavation of the ancient city of Dion, not far from Athens. A wonderful documentary details every step, from the site parameters and grid to the actual discoveries. Then, there are the rooms of artifacts, well displayed with lots of space to view and discuss. And the languages I heard, were many. Such excitement, such amazement. We were transported!
Free admission, gorgeous pamphlets and guided tours. Visit the Onassis Cultural Center website here for more information.
