Traveling with Intrepid - Day 2 - Naples

Next stop Naples! After checking out of Hotel Stella, we traveled to Naples by local train. After we arrived at the station, we dropped off our bags and headed to the most famous pizza place in Naples. If you have ever seen Eat. Pray. Love. you will recognize it as the place Julia Roberts ate pizza! It's called Pizzeria L'Antica Da Michele and it was most definitely the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life! The staff were friendly and you can watch the pizza being made right before your eyes. I greedily ate an entire pizza to myself :)

After a delicious lunch our guide Mattea took us through many a winding street to the largest cathedral in Naples. Then to some small local artisan shops and onto the Archaeological Museum of Naples. As I have mentioned many a time, my undergraduate studies were in Greek, Roman and Egyptian history/archaeology, so I always enjoy museums! This one especially as I saw many of the pieces I had studied in class. The most memorable was the Alexander Mosaic (seen below).

The Intrepid tour so far has been fantastic and one of the things I have really enjoyed is seeing the local cities in a small group with a guide. Naples is a beautiful city, but is known for being a bit rough. I would never have gone down the streets we did if I was traveling by myself. They were totally safe, just crowded, unfamiliar and very busy. That's the beauty of joining a tour - you just wouldn't see the local side of things if you were traveling on your own! Another amazing day full of excitement, adventure, great people, food, amazing sites, history and more. Next up.. the ancient archaeological site of Pompeii and climbing Mount Vesuvius! I have really enjoyed reading your comments. Please keep asking questions, leaving comments and engaging. It's great to hear what you think!
