Another Case of Copying Designs: Forever 21

Eco-friendly designer Eliza Starbuck has started a new petition on change.org to help fight against Forever 21 stealing from talented designers. Over 2,500 people have joined the cause to fight against the latest case of theft from the Feral Childe label. As you can see below, it appears that they have copied the pattern exactly.
Forever 21 has been known to copy other top designers and re-sell their designs for a fraction of the cost. Designers like Diane Von Furstenburg and Anna Sui have been victim to such thefts. Now Feral Childe's unique print and design is being sold by someone else for a mere $15.90. Outrageous! Activist and designer herself, Eliza Starbuck notes that "by copying one of Feral Childe's designs and selling it for $15.80 a tank top, Forever 21 is not only saying it has no respect for original work of independent designers, the company is also undermining the entire eco-fashion movement and its effort to foster a broader sustainable ethic within the fashion industry."
Now, I am not going to lie, I do shop at Forever 21. I am a student and cannot always afford top labels; however, I do NOT agree with this and I support the petition to stop theft of original designs. Visit change.org to join the petition. I read a very interesting article a while ago profiling Forever 21 and addressing why the fast fashion chain continues to succeed despite multiple lawsuits for copyright infringement. Ultimately it's much more profitable for them to knock off a design and pay a designer a settlement than it is to create their own designs. They are so wildly successful that they can use this as their business model with zero repercussions.

I do shop at F21 occasionally, but I'm doing so less and less these days. It's not because of ethical qualms, but rather for the more selfish reason that stuff I buy there rarely lasts. That's like throwing good money down the drain.

P.S. Hope your wedding planning is going well!
