Jamil and Alia, a brother and sister team, have been designing for 8 years and their line has also appeared in New York, LA and Hong Kong. They travel extensively and frequently and the influences of Kenya, the Congo, Russia and Kazakhstan as well as North America, are evident in their collection. This is Canada, a touch of everywhere and everyone! While I sat captivated by JUMA, I could hear so many languages being used to convey the excitement of JUMA'S designs. French, Russian, Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish and English, quiet whispers and loud exclamations, all in a hurry to express instant reactions as the models glided from bright screen to bright lights. Loved the connection to nature and wildlife and the blues, blacks and vibrant orange colours of the clothing. The beauty is there as well as the practicalities of surviving winter with heavy wool knits inspired by the Tibetans. Vests, leggings, pants, capes, coats - all reflective of multi cultures and landscapes and the very real need to protect against the long cold season. See their website here.
