This was a historical fashion show, sponsored by The Original Costume Museum Society and Ivan Sayers, host and producer. Held at the Hellenic Centre 4500 Arbutus Street, October 1, 2009, this was a show to end all shows that was both a fundraiser for the society and an opportunity to be glitzy and glamourous in the outfits and accessories of those years. There were fabulous door prizes and silent auction items, including a fully furnished period dollhouse, vintage hats and clothing, books, jewelry and much more.

The food, stuffed Cornish Game Hen and cheesecake with strawberries, was sublime and the fashions even more so. Ivan Sayers, as always, expertly provides the background, the history, the design details, where he purchased the outfits, the jokes, the racy tidbits and of course, the literature and films of the times. Movies he recommended this time were: The Women, (all female cast) Sunset Boulevard, 42nd Street and Gone With The Wind. The following photos show the intricate work (beading, sequins, hooks and eyes, buttons) and exotic materials (lace, ribbon, fur, silk) as well as shoes and accessories that are popular today as well as yesterday.
