New York Fashion Week Spring 2010 Ready to Wear Part One

Here are a few favorites from the first two days of New York Fashion Week. I was not overly impressed with many of the collections. I still get the feeling that many of the designers are playing it safe and producing garments that are "wearable" and "marketable."

These few designers definitely stood apart from the rest. Part two coming soon. What did you think of the collection so far? Are there any you are looking forward to?

Charlotte Ronson

A fun and playful collection full of basics and separates. There were bodysuits, jumpers, acid washed denim shorts and skinny jeans, sheer tops, leather and studs!

Cynthia Rowley

Cynthia Rowley's collection featured cool cut out pieces in mostly neutral tones. There were some great jackets and tops with ruffles and bows that would work well for the office. The floral patterned dresses were beautifully tailored and would flatter any body.

Jason Wu

Definitely the highlight of all the collections so far! Jason Wu didn't play it safe at all. The runway was glamorous and as usual he chose bold colors that popped! There were some more casual day pieces in a variety of tweed patterns and some gorgeous short evening dresses. His pieces are designed so well, they make all of the models look like a million dollars.

Looks like the one shoulered
look is here to stay for a while.

Preen

Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi pushed the envelope this year with some interesting cut out geometric dresses. The color palette was centered around soft colors and inlcuded a lot of sheers. Just for fun, they also threw in a few pairs of silver and gold pants too!

United Bamboo

Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham put together a stunning collection this season. The looks were mostly formal and evening dress wear and included a variety of elegant hats. Shimmering blacks, beiges and teals made the collection stand out.

Yigal Azrouël

This season Yigal Azrouël took a different direction with his cut out geometric dresses. They were tight fitting and short with a variety of multitude of different cuts. He also showed men's pieces as well as bathing suits. There were a few great leather jackets and cocktail dresses thrown into the mix too.

Great picks! I definitely loved the Jason Wu show. Can't wait to see what else is to come... Especially from Rodarte.

The Yigal Azrouël collection has some stunning pieces! Btw I'm awed that you have the time to go through these collections with everything you're doing in Japan. Keep up the coverage of NYFW lady. :-)
