Yves Saint Laurent Personal Art Collection Auction Today

The majority of the art collection of Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge will be auctioned today with the proceeds going to found a new Aids research foundation. Seven hundred and thirty-three pieces will be auctioned in Paris at the Grand Palais. The items are presented as if they are in on display in an apartment similar to one Pierre Berge or Yves Saint Laurent may have lived in. Some of the artists include: Picasso, Matisse and Mondrian. There are also ancient Egyptian scupltures, art deco tables and bronze statues. Christie's has organized the auction and the president, Jonathan Rendell, hopes that this will give the slumping art market a boost. Why sell now? Berge stated that "the collection has lost the greater part of its significance." He and Saint Laurent began collecting art in the 1950's when Saint Laurent was designer for Dior. Yves Saint Laurent passed away last year at the age of 1971.

Hey girl! I did the unthinkable and wrote about Oscar fashion... Lisa liked Anne Hathaway's scaly fish dress. Anyway, be sure to drop by SBF and let me know your thoughts!
