New York Fashion Week is on! Last year I reviewed only my favorite collections. This year I am going to review all of the collections by day and highlight a few designers from each day. What an exciting time! While the list of designers is substantially smaller this year, it's important to focus on the future and the bright young designers that are launching new collections. This time I am also using
WWD as a source for fashion updates and images. I like the layout of their website and find it easy to access images and reviews. Are you a member of
WWD? What do you think of their website compared to

Jenni Kayne

Jenni Kayne showed a great collection full of simple but classic basics that can be dressed up or down for any occasion. It consists mostly of blacks with a few whites and blues to mix things up. This little black dress (left) ensemble features great detailing a belt. The neckline, lace and belt give it a unique sophistication. The dress shirt (right) and vest are great together and would look great with black jeans, shimmery tights or even blue jeans. It is a very versatile piece. You can visit her website
here for a closer look!
The cut and color of this dress are great!
This Prabal Gurung's first solo collection after completing five years as a designer at Bill Blass. While I have to admit I had never heard of this designer, I really enjoyed his collection and will be watching out for his work in the future! His collection features some great evening wear looks with unique and refreshing lines and cuts. The back of the black on white dress (left) is equisite and eye catching. The little black one shouldered number on the right complete with little black gloves would certainly capture everyone's attention on a night out! Unfortunately I was not able to find a website. Hopefully he will have one up soon!
Great sleeves on the dress
and a modern
take on the classic two pieces suit!
A magnificent dress!

Monique Luillier is quickly becoming a favorite designer of mine! Her dresses are imaculately detailed and are styled with shredded tights. Many also feature shear black sleeves and tulle. In an interview with WWD, she stated that she wanted to "play up the layers and textures." The dress on the left reminds me of Audrey, yet the black sleeves give it a modern edge. The white dress on the right is simply exsquisite! What do you think of these dresses? You can visit her website
here for more information.

Bibhu Mohapatra

Designer Bibhu Mohapatra, a graduate of F.I.T., has worked for Halston and spent the last eight years working as the design director for J. Mendel. In an interview with women's wear daily, he said he was inspired by the architecture of
Frank Gehry and 18th Century Japanese Warriors! The interviewer of
WWD questions whether this is the time to be launching a high end label but only time will tell. His concept is strong and there are many memorable pieces in his collection. Don't you think this dress on the right is Oscar worthy? Simple, yet elegant and falls beautifully. I love the structure and paneling on the dress on the left. The shoes that were used in the collection were sky high and a great touch! Another designer to watch in the coming years. What did you think of this collection?Favorites?!
I love the bows and the draping on this look.
This look would sell very well in Japan.
