Swap-O-Rama-Rama!

We definitely need a Swap-O-Rama-Rama in Vancouver! This clothing swap, founded by Wendy Tremayne, gives people in communities the opportunity to gather together to give new life to their old clothes. All you have to do is bring one bag of old clothes and a small donation. All of the clothes are piled on one table and everyone is free to take as many pieces as they like to create something new! You can then work with local designers to learn how to revamp clothing by making minor modifications. You can also learn how to embroider, knit or crochet. An all day runway provides you with the chance to model your new creations. If there are two people who want the same piece the tie is broken with a "try on" and the crowd decides who looks the best. You can learn more about Wendy Tremayne and the event here.

A lot of designers in Vancouver are focused on re-using and re-cycling materials. I think a lot of people would be interested in this. I have seen so many different pieces at Value Village that would be great, but I just didn't have the time or knowledge to modify them. Second hand shopping is just one of the things that you can do to take part in reducing textile waste.

Hi Anthea,
I just sent out a Save the Date for the next SORR in Vancouver. It will be on Sunday, Sept 28 from 11 to 4 at the Grandview Legion Hall on Commercial. Just send me an email if you'd like to be involved! (This will be the fourth Swap-O-Rama-Rama we've had since 2006.)
