BWSS (My Sister's Closet) and Vancity Theatre: Collaborating To Support Critical Issues

Battered Women's Support Services and its social enterprise thrift boutique, My Sister's Closet and Vancity Theatre hosted a fabulous event, on January 27, 2016, to support the critical issue of ending violence against girls and women. Reducing textile waste to the landfill, supporting eco thrift by recycling and buying local, were also highlighted. Contributions to Battered Women's Support Services, were generated by the donation of $5 from each $15 ticket for the evening. Attendees learned more about the high price of fast fashion for the world and for the environment, by seeing Andrew Morgan's poignant documentary: THE TRUE COST. Everyone enjoyed the dramatic venue for an eco-thrift pop up, from the ever changing racks and silver mannequins from My Sister's Closet at Seymour and Helmcken. A special display of beautiful jewelry by one of the artisans, there, Angel Ahmadzai-Fisher, Ace &Co., was so popular and you can see more when you drop by the store. Generous appie trays were provided by Nesters Market, a true community market, on Seymour. Both teams, from Vancity and from My Sister's Closet worked very hard, leading up to and on the night. to invite and welcome long time supporters and new friends. Even on a dreary, wet night, the lights were on! Keep shining!
If you would like to donate clothing or shop for a great cause, My Sister's Closet is at 1092 Seymour: Hours: M-Thurs 10:00-7:00, Sat. ll:00-7:00 Sunday 12-6:00. Volunteers always welcome!
