Blanche Macdonald Fashion Design Students visit My Sister's Closet

Written by Colleen Tsoukalas (Treasure Seeker Colleen)

My Sister's Closet, Seymour and Helmcken, Vancouver, is the happening location of My Sister's Closet, the thrift store with so much more.  With proceeds going to support programs and services for battered women and their families, it's all good!  You will find gorgeous clothing and accessories for women and men and a special collection for babies and young ones. The work of local artisans is prominently displayed (cards, jewelry) and the window 'stories' colorfully depict Vancouver street fashion. This is the store that does runway shows, welcomes shopping tours, has friendly and talented volunteers, and provides a creative and supportive environment for everyone, especially student designers.  On Tuesday of this week, Instructor, Tyler, brought a class in to put together camera ready outfits for a fashion shoot.  Enthusiastic and ready to work, they are focused and yet have time to say hi to customers who just may ask their opinion. They brighten up the darkest day and put together the most eye-catching looks.  That black net beach cover up?  Why under a wedding dress, of course.  And who would have thought of orange loafers and an orange purse to dress up black and white?  And yes, one of them instantly spotted the tiara/crown and had it on her head immediately.  Plaids and patterns go together, tied up, pinned and belted and the tallest heels click importantly along the makeshift runway.  Guys, who are all about color and bravado, find leather jackets and just the right jeans and then toss a royal red something over the top.  Tyler, or should we say, Tim, proves to be a patient and encouraging teacher.  Their fashion, their show, their store, for a day.  Thanks Tyler and Blanche Macdonald students.  Kudos, Samantha and My Sister's Closet!!!
