Toronto Fashion Week 2018 - Day 1

This year's Toronto Fashion Week, in collaboration with RE\SET, was set in the stylish Yorkville. Like many fashion weeks of the past, runway shows were primarily viewed in the tents, but there were also shows at Yorkville Village (previously known as Hazelton Lanes) and around Yorkville, for example, Michael Kale at the ROM, and Namesake at the LUMAS gallery. They also had a fantastic Shoppers Beauty Boutique (where you could have lashes or lips made up), and an amazing TFW sign. Wouldn't be the same without those signs!

In typical fashion week style, the days were jam packed. Below are highlights from the shows that I saw. Special thanks to Dani Matte and her amazing team at NordströmMatte PR for the invitations and care throughout the week. All images below care of George Pimentel.

Victoria Hayes

Loved this collection full of fantastic vibrant prints, bright colors, and daring earrings. The collection was static in the runway room, which meant that the models were stationary, and attendees could walk around and get a closer look at the fabrics and prints. I could see myself wearing all of these looks and I heard others sharing similar thoughts as we walked around the room. No doubt her looks will be in demand!

Namesake

Another static collection, featured in the LUMAS gallery. Static seemed to be a theme for this year's Toronto Fashion Week, and while it was often crowded, we appreciated the ability to walk around and get a closer look at the clothes.

Namesake features hand made leather jackets created in Toronto by designer Rosa Halpern. Her jackets each feature the names of powerful women who have left an imprint on the world. See the collection here and read an interview with her here.

Mani Jassal

This collection, designed by Mani Jassal, started with a beautiful video introduction, which made you stop and think for just a minute, and actually focus on something other than the hectic that is fashion week. The clothes were  absolutely stunning, and as the lights came up, the suspense was lifted as the models began to walk out in these beautiful garments. Loved this collection, which featured a variety of stunning looks for all occasions, day to night.

Sid Neigum

The final show of the night was the ever talented Sid Neigum. I have to say that this was the most creative and inspiring location for a runway show that I have ever seen! The show was featured in the "P2" parking lot below Yorkville Village. Not only was the venue interesting, the looks did not disappoint. We expected no less as we have been following Sid Neigum's shows since 2011 (see our 2011 fashion week post here). Loved the structure, unique cuts, and details of all of the looks. My favorite was the short white dress with structured sleeves and detailing that looked almost leaf like! Bravo!
