BWSS (Battered Women's Support Services) GALA - A Night To Remember

This BWSS GALA is held yearly to raise awareness about violence against women and to raise funds for programs and services to support them. A huge effort, on everyone's part, ( Organizers, Hosts,Sponsors, Donators, Speakers, Musicians, Artists, Models, Volunteers and more, many more),  the night was a memorable one of coming together to talk about violence and its effects on women and their families.  November 25, 2015 at the Terminal City Club, Vancouver, was a gracious, warm and thoughtfully organized setting for an impressive series of events to celebrate the strength of survivors, to be inspired by generous donations for the auction, to be awed by the artists' and artisans' contributions, to be welcomed and energized by Global TV Anchor, Jill Kropp's animated hosting, and to be captivated by Severn Cullis-Suzuki's excellent keynote about violence against the Earth, our world, our environment and all of us, especially women.

Breaking Stereotypes through fashion, was developed and launched on the stage runway by Melanie Kobayashi, lead stylist, assisted by Su Bennett. Tracy Richardson mentored students from John Casablanca Institute to fulfill Melanie's vision of statement making style. (Here we are in our power and glory, deserving much joy in life and safety inside and outside of our homes) Dianna Drahanchuk, who helped style last year's fashion show, provided perfect timing of models' entrances and exits, as well as taking photos and being a supportive voice of experience.

Two of the greatest advocates, role models and strategists for supporting women are Angela Marie MacDougall, Executive Director, BWSS and Samantha Kearney, Manager of My Sister's Closet, (Social Enterprise jewel of a thrift store) at 1092 Seymour. These women work tirelessly and passionately to speak up, speak powerfully, and speak clearly about what steps are already being taken on a daily basis and what needs to be furthered by the entire community. Always there, they remember our names, too. That's where it all starts, with acknowledgement, partnership, resources and support.

Thanks for your hard work and for the invitation to attend.  We will all remember the November 25th Gala and we will be back.  Can't wait for next steps and Gala 2016!
