O.C.M.S. Talk with Ivan Sayers

This past Sunday the captivating Ivan Sayers gave a talk and fashion show on vintage clothing at the University Women's Club hosted by the O.C.M.S. He gave an informative overview of the period, focusing on the mid sixties. Standard preservation methods do not encourage the wearing of vintage pieces but to please the crowd, Ivan included a small fashion show! Many of the gowns in the collection are from three prominent Toronto estates and include: Dior, Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, Norell, Pierre Cardin, Halston, and Gucci. He talked about the progression in music from Elvis to Beatles, decrease in skirt length, the Twiggy obsession and the ever trend predicting couture. It was great to see so many people excited about vintage fashion! Ivan Sayers offers courses through UBC continuing studies and gives regular talks about different aspects of vintage fashion throughout Vancouver. Be sure to check it out!

I agree, the YSL Mondrian dress is a piece of history! If anyone is in the San Francisco area, a Yves Saint Laurent Exhibit just opened at the De Young Museum, showing 40 years of his revolutionary work.
