Jeanne Beker!

This Saturday Jeanne Beker spoke at the Jewish Community Centre for the Opening Gala of the Jewish Book Festival. My cousin and I went and we met a few people there, including Miranda from stylebyfire and Marilyn Watson, who is a writer for Vancouver Fashion Ezine.

Vicki Gabereau interviewed Jeanne about her exciting life and adventures in fashion. When asked about what she loves about fashion so much, Jeanne explained that "fashion is theatre of the highest order." It's all about "escapism, fantasy and show!" She especially loves the drama and larger than life characters." She has always had a love for theatre, beginning her career on the sitcom Toby and later studying with renowned Mime, Eitienne Decroux. (Read her biography here.) Jeanne is a captivating speaker, even for those not interested in pursuing a fashion career. Her advice is universal: be willing to create your own opportunities, break boundaries and "get your own job!"

Her recommendations for those who are pursuing careers in fashion? You must have an "open heart and mind." One of her favourite designers to interview? Karl Lagerfeld, for his "witty nature and generosity of spirit." When asked about developing a personal sense of style, she insists you must "Be bold, think outside the box" and be willing to adapt and re-evaluate!

After the show, we all lined up with our copies of "Passion for Fashion" and waited for our chance to speak with her. She was full of energy and was patient and excited to talk to every person she met. Thanks to Jeanne for coming to Vancouver and inspiring us "not to be a afraid and to never give up!"

Thos fabulous five inch heels Jeanne is wearing? Why they're by Canadian fashion house Dsquared!

Jeanne agreed to take pictures with all of us!

Jeanne took her time with each fan and carefully signed their copies of Passion for Fashion with thoughtful comments.
