The End of Cosmo Girl?

Everyone and everything is being affected by the economic crisis in some way. The fashion magazines are talking about investing in pieces that will last. People are looking for items that are affordable and stores are doing everything they can to encourage us to buy.

The magazine industry is suffering too. Teen fashion magazine sales are down this year as CosmoGirl announces it will release its final issue in December. According to WWD, magazine add pages were down 15.5 % and sales were down 18% at the beginning of the year. Both Seventeen and Teen Vogue reported ad pages losses of 8.8% and 5.9% respectively. Hearst Company sister magazine, Seventeen, will take over all CosmoGirl Subscribers, while the cosmogirl website will remain after the publication closes. It was announced that the editor Susan Schulz will be staying on with the company to work on special projects. Vogue doesn't seem to be suffering add page losses; it seemed like half of their fall issue magazine was an advertisement! Do you think this is this the beginning of the end of magazines?

to honest it might be possible that paper mags will be gone one day, if not for economic issues, maybe for ecological ones (lets save the planet and save the trees!).

wow! I don't know! On one hand, it makes me sad, but I agree with the stiletto effect that paper mags will likely one day be obsolete. I bet we'll all resort to reading things with Amazon's "kindle" or the iphone someday soon. I wasn't the biggest fan of cosmogirl, but I miss ellegirl so much. YM went a long time ago too! Now its only teen vogue, and TV has so many ads and too much airbrushing.

have a lovely day!

as much as i love magazines, cosmogirl was never my favorite. i know it's better for the environment in the long run, but i love having the actual magazine as well. :(
